This netbook has exceeded my expectations. One final note: Open Office is compatible with and as easy to use as the MS Office suite. I download a lot of videos for play back on my LCD TV and the image is as sharp and smooth as it is with my Toshiba Centrino notebook.
If you're concerned about the keyboard size, it's about 85% the size of a standard notebook keyboard - very easy to get used to. Mine came with a 4 cell battery, which is good for 3.5-4hours. I read reviews comparing most of the current 10" netbook offerings before deciding on this one and I have not been disappointed.
I did buy the 2GB memory upgrade, but performance was fine with the standard 1GB. Go down to your local Best Buy or Costco and take a look at their floor models. What I wasn't expecting was the performance to be as good as it is.
Purchased an after-market 8 cell off eBay and now can get 7.5-8 hours. It's also free (donations accepted)
This is a nearly perfect replacement laptop. In fact many prefer its familiarity and efficiency over Vista Home edition. There are three minor issues:1) the reduced size keyboard means a shift key is in an odd spot2) the touchpad proximity means that you'll want to use a mouse most often and disable the touchpad3) the reduced height screen makes some applications a little difficult to useBut these are really minor issues when you consider how inexpensive the PC 1000H is and how lightweight it is. I picked this up for a friend and nearly kept it for myself. I'd rather run something other than the OS that is on it, but for most people XP Home edition is perfectly fine. Not too long ago you could pay a very high premium for a laptop that weighs just two pounds. The battery life and performance are excellent. You might think that you are only going to get a couple of hours from such a small unit but it will run all day on one charge.
I paid for $450 three month ago, since I really need it for working in airplane for cross country flight (my Dell D630 is still too big and last only three hours with a $400 9-cell battery). She complained about missing the DVD rom. The battery last the whole flight, and it does what I need to do. My child use it when I am not traveling. But I have heard the Samsung one has a longer battery life and cheaper. It is hard to compare, since I never use it.
Even if the person in front of me on the plane has their seat back down, it's comfy to use. This little netbook is amazing. My original thought was to upgrade it to 2GB of RAM, and I may still do it, but it hasn't proven necessary; this running Office and stock analysis software. Touch typing is no problem. There's only one minor concern -- the up-arrow and the right-shift are in the wrong place, but you can remap the keyboard.
Perfect for my needs and gives a whole screen shot. I did alot of research before purchase. Not a loud fan. Small enough to take along that doesen't weigh you down, but with a screen big enough to see comfortably.
I have had this for 2 months, and have only used less than 40 gigs of memory. I was originally looking for a kimble reading device--decided a small computer would be more versatile for the same money, and it is. I was also originally looking at its smaller brother- the 7 inch screen- but then found this 10 inch big brother. 5 stars *****---not 2**This is my very first laptop-or netbook-or mini-laptop. You can get an external one though.I'm very happy with my purchase. Not as powerful or as fast as a big laptop, but suits my needs to pick up e-mail, surf the net, research, plays music and videos, the speaker is not bad for a little thing, but for great sound just plug in headphones.
I don't even notice it and I'm bothered by ticking clocks, and sounds like that in the background. The one I have has 80 gigabytes of hard drive, bluetooth and wireless wifi which works off my husbands wireless modem and public wifi.
No regrets. My needs were simple.
You can add an external Hard drive. I have the larger 6 cell battery that doesn't really give you 7 hrs of time, more realistically 4-5.
It reads e-books just like a sony or kimble, but can do everything a laptop can do as well, just a little bit bigger. The only drawback is no slot for cd or dvd.
